It's 1954, the residents of these new flats in Ruchazie have a 'water feature' to look out on - the remnants of the Monkland Canal, and the old Gartcraig Bridge, which used to lead to the Gartcraig brickworks. Locals also used to call the crossing 'Jessie's Bridge', although quite who Jessie was is long lost in the mists of time.
While the water proved a lure, and a hazard, for local kids, it was a worry for their mums and dads.
Today, the M8 motorway follows the old canal route from near Easterhouse to Townhead.
